One Stamp Set Two Ways

We have a great theme this week for Flourishes Friday, and it's also the Christmas Challenge for October too ... using one stamp set and creating two looks with it.  I really enjoy doing this sort of thing because it shows the versatility of the stamps.

So here is my pair of cards created with the Doves and Holly set from last Christmas at Flourishes.  One is very Clean and Simple and one is more rich.

I think one thing I really appreciate about Flourishes stamps is that they are so finely detailed that you can color them up beautifully, or just stamp them as they are and you get a gorgeous looking, finely detailed image.  On this beautiful CAS design on the left I did just that.

I stamped with Ranger Distress Ink in Stormy Sky, which is a perfect match for the retired color Buckaroo Blue from SU.  After I cut out the birds with a Labels Seventeen Nestabilities, then I used the nesties as a template and sponged heavily with the Distress Ink in Stormy Sky around the edges.  It leaves a nice crisp border of white around the image.    This would be a great style for Christmas cards I think.

Then I created the card shape by using the largest of the Labels 17 Nesties shape, cutting out the card just over the folded edge (card folded 4.25 x 11 inches) so you have a shaped card.  I added a Buckaroo Blue layer that had been embossed with the poinsettia folder from SU.

Then you can see I added a silk ribbon bow, a Finishing Touches brad,  and Dazzling Diamonds on the edges of the card with my Quicky Glue Pen.  To me this is totally a Stacy Morgan style card :)

Then for the warmer version of the card...

I used some of the same themes in the card with the sponging (Ranger Distress Ink - Tea Stain), but this image was colored with Copic Markers (Dusty Rose, Evergreen, Flesh Tones 1 and Flesh Tones 2 Collections, and a W1 and W2.  I used some beautiful papers Capella by Basic Grey and Leslie's new favourite Prima Paper (Analee is still available in the store).   You can see I embossed the layers under the main image and sponged them really well with Tea Stain Distress ink.

For accents I've added two rows of ribbon, Ivory Trim Loop and the gorgeous new Satin Pleat Ribbon that is just dreamy!  Then I've added some lovely pearl embellishments.

So there you have it, one beautiful stamp set, two different ways!  Hopefully that inspired you!  Join us on the challenge and use the keywords FLLCNOEL6 and create two cards with one set.  And I know you'll find lots more inspiration from the rest of the fabulous Flourishes Design Team....

See With Our Hearts

I have missed playing in the color challenges at SCS the past weeks.  It just seems my Tuesdays don't allow me to stamp for fun all the time.   So, it's pretty late in the afternoon, but I had a chance to bring out some new SU stamps and my watercolor brush that I haven't used in a long time for today's colors, they are Basic Grey, Rose Red and Daffodil Delight.

I fell in love with this set from the first time I saw it, the clean lines of these flowers are just so pretty.  The set is called Every Moment, and actually everything on here is SU.  I used the Big Shot and scalloped circles Bigz die to cut out the watercolor paper and then stamped two flowers on it, stamping a 3rd flower on more watercolor paper so that I could cut it out and pop it up.  I also sponged the scallop after coloring to give it that gray haze.

I rounded the bottom corners and also added scallops with my corner rounder to the grey strip on the right to pair with the scallops on the main image.  I used the new Elegant Lines Textured Impressions folder as well.

Here's another picture of the coloring on the flowers too....

The quote reads, "When we see with our hearts, every moment is the most wonderful gift in the world".

Thanks for stopping by today!

Recipe:  Stamps:  SU - Every Moment;  Ink:  Brown Stazon, Basic Grey;  Paper:  Rose Red, Daffodil Delight, Basic Grey, Rose Red Patterns DSP, Watercolor Paper;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Scallop  Circles Bigz Die, Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Folder, Stampin' Write Markers, Waterbrush, Dimensionals, Basic Grey Satin Ribbon, Sponge.

Up Up and Away

When we were on vacation in August I spent some time coloring in the evenings when we were watching a movie, or after the kids had gone to bed.  I think I had a bunch of markers out and saw this type of color combination together and liked it, so I picked this fun balloon image colored it up, but I didn't put it into a card for a while.  I knew I wanted to order the PTI clouds die for the card...and that cute die just came this week.

I'm especially proud of the coloring on this one...I just took my time and love how the depths came out in the balloons.  I also added a light touch of BG01 and BG0000 on the bottoms of the clouds to give them a little definition too.   Copic colors are W2, W3, W7, R14, R27, R29, and BG72, BG75 and BG78.  W2, W3 are really good matches with Sahara Sand paper.

Of all the new Spellbinders Die, I wasn't so sure about this Labels 14, and yet it's the one I really am enjoying the most!  I decided to trim the edges on this one to fit inside the patterned paper, and then added some piercing for definition.  Otherwise it's pretty clean.  I know that I need more masculine cards in my stash and this one will fit the bill. :)

I'm off to recover a bit...we took our High School students for a retreat this weekend in the mountains.  What a great time we had together!  But now I could use some sleep.....and tomorrow it's laundry!  That never ending chore!

Recipe:  Stamps:  PTI Up and Away, Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black;  Paper:  Flourishes Classic White Cardstock, Baja Breeze, Poppy Parade DSP, Sahara Sand;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Labels 14 Nestabilities, PTI Clouds Die, Dotted Wavy Border Punch, MFT Die Namics Ric Rac border and grossgrain texture plate, Piercer, Copic Markers, Dimensionals

Nook and Pantry Christmas

Today is another wonderful Flourishes Friday, and I'm in a Christmas kind of mood :)

So, I pulled out my Basic Grey Nook and Pantry stitched brads, these are gorgeous fancy brads that coordinate with the Nook and Pantry papers (still also in the store).  Now....because I'm getting into Christmas mode, I thought I'd challenge myself to use Nook and Pantry (which has more of a country feel), to make a Christmas card....think I can do it?

So I matched up these pretty papers with this gorgeous Seasonal Wreaths set, still one of my favourites...I colored the wreath with Copics (I'll list the colors at the end), and then used my lovely new Spellbinders shapes to make the most of the paper (Labels 16 and Labels 14) as well as MFT's Perfect Bracket edge on the top awning.  You wouldn't normally think of these colors for Christmas...especially with the yellow, but the red and green really helps it out.

Now here's a look at the beautiful fancy brad which really accents the piece, and this amazing new velvet ribbon....

And here's a closer picture of the coloring....

I added a yellow glow around the wreath to give it a better match to the papers and warm it up.  The sentiment is from the retired Angelic set.

Well, do you think it works for Christmas?

Head on over to visit the Design Team for all their creativity today....

Recipe:  Stamps:  Flourishes - Seasonal Wreaths, Angelic (Sentiment);  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black;  Paper:  Wild Wasabi, Poppy Parade, Flourishes Classic White Cardstock, Basic Grey Nook and Pantry DSP;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Labels 14, Labels 16 Nestabilities, MFT Perfect Bracket Edge Dienamics, 1" circle punch, Fancy Stitched Brads - Nook and Pantry, Crushed Velvet Ric Rac Ribbon, Dimensionals, Copic Markers (R14, R27, E25, E27, E29, YG11, YG13, YG17, G19, E25, E27, E29, Y11, Y06, Y08, Y0000).

Merry Christmas with Critters

I am realizing that I better get going with some Christmas cards .... I'm not typically a mass producer with my cards I send at Christmas....so it's one at a time for me, and time is ticking!

I just got an order of SU in last night and it was fun to look at my new sets and pull this one out today for the SCS Sketch Challenge.

I took this in bright (probably too bright) sunlight....but you can really see the white pop :)!    It's called Merry Crittermas from SU and I've colored it with copics.  Aren't these little raccoons cute?

I used paper from last years Christmas line Ski Slope, as well as the felt snow flurries from last year and this years new snowflake embossing folder (really pretty!).

What I hope you can see above is the touches of glitter I added with my Spica pens over top of the copic coloring it adds a nice touch of subtle sparkle.  And by shadowing with BG0000 around the Critters, tree and snow it gives the feeling of them being grounded, and standing on the snow on the ground.

So what about you?  When do you start your Christmas cards, and how many do you make?

Recipe:  Stamps:  SU - Merry Crittermas;  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black;  Paper:  Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Flourishes Classic White Cardstock, Ski Slope DSP;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Northern Flurry Embossing Folder, RHR Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Punch, Dimensionals, Piercer, Felt Flurries, Copic Markers (BG72, BG75, BG78;  R14, R27,  W3, W7, E25, E27, E29, YG11, YG13, YG17, YG91, Spica Glitter Pens)

Beauty for Ashes

First off...I wanted to send out a BIG shout out to Michelle D.  a parcel full of stamping goodies for me was mistakenly mailed to her, and she called me to make sure it got to me.  I so appreciate her honesty and kindness.  And it was fun meeting her in person.  So thanks Michelle!  You were a total blessing today to me!

There are days when I just feel such joy in this craft.  It means a lot to me to being able to create something that is perfect for someone, with my own hands and have it demonstrate my love for them.  I couldn't wait to show you this card.

I have a friend at work that has had a difficult year.  Her sister whom she was very close to, had a stroke more than a year ago and languished, held on for over a year.  She passed away just a few weeks ago.  It was not easy to watch her die, and my friend at times questioned, "Why God?"  "Why does she need to suffer, why are you waiting so long to take her home?" The answers aren't always easy to see or understand, and that's where Faith really has to anchor you.   This side of eternity I don't know the why.

But I found a promise (and this stamp!) that I'd like to share with her that I think is such an encouragement.  Because I know God to be a healer ...and I know He'll bring hope and healing to her.

The verse from Isaiah reads "Give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness".  I just LOVE this verse.  We will mourn in life, it will be hard, and heavy sometimes, BUT the amazing power of God is that he CAN bring beauty, joy, praise and healing even in those situations.  And it's so powerful when He does that.  I've experienced it first hand.

I've stamped this beautiful frame from Verve, Framed Wishes in Mellow Moss, as well as the Plain Jane Isaiah 61:3 inside the frame in Memento Tuxedo Black, then I was able to accent the JOY word with a copic marker.

I've used the gorgeous Basic Grey Capella papers that I've barely put a dent into, but this was the perfect card for them.  I've sponged the bottom scallops, added some gathered silk ribbon and then the sponged bird and branches punch from SU fits so well with the card, especially with the black rhinestone accents.  You can see I've also added tiny strips of dp inside the frame with mitred corners to really show it off.

Have a wonderful Tuesday friends.  Thanks for visiting.

Recipe:  Stamps:  Verve - Framed Wishes, Plain Jane Isaiah 61:3;  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Mellow Moss, Blush Blossom;  Paper:  Mellow Moss, Basic Black, Basic Grey Capella dsp, Blush Blossom;  Accessories:  Copic Marker G21, Champagne Silk Ribbon, EK Success Scallop Punch, Bird and Branches Jumbo Punch (SU), Black Rhinestones, Dimensionals, Sponge.

The Mark of a Man...

Two things today!  .....First I have a winner for my Flourishes Birthday Blog candy....

43Powered by RANDOM.ORGWho is ...

Carolyn Sue said...

Pumpkins are just about my favorite autumn thing. The gold orange color, the interesting shapes, and of course the possibility of some spicy pumpkin bread or pie! What's not to love? Your card "gave me a warm glow". I can't wait to try that nestie pumpkin!

Congrats!  Please email me (see *View My Complete Profile* right sidebar under my pic) and let me know which set you'd like to choose - Swan Lake or Lace Edges from Flourishes and your snail mail address.

Next...how about some Granny Smith Apples?

This is created with the new and gorgeous Apple of my Eye  set from Flourishes.  It was so fun to play with this set this month, and now it can be yours!

I've added some great accents, some fun cork cut into scallops with my Spellbinder Borderabilities (it ran through the cork beautifully!)  And also some pretty Ivory Linen ruffle ribbon, and some great texture with the different CB folders (Lattice and Herringbone).   Coloring is done with Prismacolor pencils and OMS.

Isn't that a beautiful sentiment too?  I think it's such a wonderful hope-filled quote.  I tried to give it the *look* of an apple by using it in a circle, and sponging it, and also adding the red circle pearls and punched leaves.

I love the homey feel to it with the cork and the unexpected green on the apples.   Makes me want to make some more apple cobbler with the apples from my dad!

Recipe:  Stamps:  Flourishes - Apple of my Eye;  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Cherry Cobbler (sponging);  Paper;  Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzazz, Greenhouse Gala DSP, Flourishes Classic White;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Labels One and Labels Three Nestabilities, Embossing Folders (Lattice and Herringbone), Sponge, Prismacolor Pencils, OMS, Large Bird and Branch punch, Red pearls,  Cork, Scallops Borderabilities, Ivory Linen Ruffle Ribbon, Dimensionals.

boys boys boys

Well, yesterday was all about girls...today has to be about boys.

I'm embarrassingly late in sending my nephew's present for his Birthday.  Time just REALLY got away from me.  So, now it's his sister's birthday on Monday....and I'm going to be late in mailing her present too, but not so embarrassingly late as for our nephew....they'll get them together.  I feel like such a bad Auntie!

So I had a Nephew card to make....and also a friend of our 7 year old son has his BD party tomorrow so I needed one for him too.

1st for the Nephew...who really LOVES green...

Both of these cards today are with the TSG set Puppy Love, which is so darling.  I used the TSG Challenge sketch this week and tried to mimic the dog collar in the upper strips with the brads.  Kinda fun!

Because I used such dark browns for the spots I gave him a cute eye patch by adding a little blender pen oval on the dark.

The woof woof woof and the dog prints on the sentiment circle is translated inside....

I tried to mimic a little of the hearty fun font with my copic multi-liner...but I still went uphill a little.  I'm no good unless I draw a line first!

Now to the friend Birthday party ....

I kept this one really simple, because let's be honest a 7 year old won't pay much attention.

I know the photo isn't quite *lit* enough, I just took it in natural light without my OTT lights.  I colored the pair again with copics.  This Basic Grey paper is perfect for the card with all the cute pups on it. too. I didn't do any fancy piercing or ribbon  - just some very fun mosaic tiles as accents in black and red.    The sentiment if you can't read it from my angle (sorry!) says "Friends from the Start" and these boys have been friends since Kindergarten.  :)

Ok dokey... see ya later!  Sunday at church we give our Missions Team Report to the congregation from our trip with the HS'ers to Mexico City, I'm so excited to recount the trip to them!

Recipe:  Woof Woof Woof:  Stamps:  TSG - Puppy Love;  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Garden Green;  Paper:  Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Flourishes Classic White, SU - Green Christmas paper (last year I think, can't remember the name!), and some Basic Grey....boy I'm not very helpful on my dps!;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Oval Nesties, Labels Two Nesties, 1 3/4 Circle Punch, Herringbone CB Folder, Antique Brads, Copic Markers, Dimensionals, Copic Multi-liner .005

Friends from the Start:  Stamps:  TSG - Puppy Love;  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Poppy Parade;  Paper:  Whisper White, Poppy Parade, Basic Grey - Max and Whiskers;  Accessories:  Big Shot, Long Deckled Nesties, Oval Punch, Copic Markers, Dimensionals, Mosaic Tiles

I Ruff You

We have some friends/colleagues we work with at church who have 3 very active busy BOY-ish boys....and then came a long a surprise!  A little girl, a girly girl, a pink and purple girl.  Well this sweet girl turns 4 this weekend and she won a special balloon birthday package from a local company for 15 friends.  But, what 4 year old not yet in school has 15 buddies to invite?  So she invited other people she knows and loves, and that included our almost 14 year old daughter :)  Isn't that precious?  And our daughter is really delighted to go.  They have this sweet relationship and spend time together.  Our daughter was her Sunday School Teacher for a while and every Sunday they chat and *hang out*.  I love that sort of thing.  Remember at age 4... all those big girls you looked up to?   And my daughter bless her sweet heart - really does love her.

So, you've just got to make a special really girly-girl card right?  Well, I took the plunge and could not longer resist some VERY cute There She Goes Stamps, and today I inked them for the 1st time and I'm so delighted to show you!

Isn't this adorable?  It's a set called Puppy Love, and that little girl just DID ME IN!  We don't have pets because of allergies in our house, but the pups are just so cute too, and I know it will be great for kids cards.  I'm doing another one for my nephew hopefully tomorrow.

Coloring is done with Copic Markers and I added a soft blue sky, some grass blades and shadows.  She had to be a blonde because this little 4 year old has sweet golden locks, and I had to add some very girl silk ribbon and pearls.

Sorry, I know this picture below is slightly blurry, it focussed on the sentiment and ribbon rather than the image.  But you can see her dress ruffles and the cute dog prints on the sentiment.

I also got some of my brand new Spellbinders today!  Woo Hoo I was so excited!  This is Labels 16 and Labels 14.  The papers are Memory Box Enchanted.

Very fun.  Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Flourishes Friday Release - Two Beauties!

Haven't the New Releases from Flourishes been great this week?  And they're not even over yet!  We have two beauties to show you today, with lots of samples here....

This wonderful set links the love of world travel with friendship...I really love the concept of looking in or out of the windows of someones world :)

To me this is sort of a Tuscan or Spanish Scene....see the beautiful window opening to the inside warmth and the pretty panes and the sweet pot of yellow roses and vining leaves?  YUM.

Colored with Prismacolor pencils but the this shot really shows the coloring better.  I really love the teals in this card against the greens and yellows and browns.   (you can click on the pictures to make them larger to see more details).

The papers are an old line of K & Co Christmas dps.

I've woven the silk ribbon through the Lattice borderabilities and accented with pearls and a pretty bow made with my Bow Easy.

Now how about we travel to Amsterdam?

Isn't this little tulip window sweet?  I thought it would be perfect as a Dutch window with simple primary blues and reds against the whites.  Coloring is done with Copics (DelphiniumPoppy and Fields  Collections) and I've added lots of cool gray in the depths of the window shutters to contrast the white, and give it the feeling of shadow.

Love the Martha Stewart Ring Punch scallops along the bottom and the rolled paper flower too!

Now here is another set that some of you who are FLIP members at Flourishes might recognize.  It was part of an earlier offering this summer to Flip Members as a thank you for being part of this great incentive program....and now we get to play with it and you can order it too!  Lauren did a great job illustrating this set in such a creative way.

Traditionally you'll see Fuchsias in pinks, whites and reds.  I wanted to focus on the white Fuchsias but contrast it with soft blues and greens in making this Stationary Box below....

I've just used an old tin that held some stamping product at some point and decorated it inside and out.

Here is a detail on the outside.

I've used the Sky Collection of Copics for the blues and the Evergreen Collection for the greens.  Then to accent the box I've added some gorgeous Cotton Linen Ribbon in blue ruffled on Scor Tape and also these great new Faux Nailheads in grey, seriously aren't they the perfect accent?     The designer paper is Memory Box Dewfrost I believe.

And here's the inside...  The quote by Mother Theresa reads "In this life we cannot do great things, we can only do small things with great love."  I've over-stamped it with the Fuchsias for the box lid.

I've lined the box with designer paper and then added little 3 x 3 notecards with home-made envelopes from the designer paper.

I love the simplicity of the cards too.  I stamped and colored the border stamp along the edges and colored with copics, and then stamped the main image and punched out part of it with my circle punch adding soft color, rounding one corner on the card to match the tin.

And one last project to show you a much more traditional representation of a Fuchsia....

I've watercolored this pretty flower stem with reinkers and water-based markers and cut out a window in the beautiful Vellum from Webster's .  I think my favourite part about the whole card are these gorgeous new Sparklers I've added as accents!  They are just gorgeous and the lightest shade of pink that is perfection for this soft card.

I've added both Pink silk ribbon and this pretty Raspberry Crochet Trim.

And here is that beautiful quote again done on a nestie.

Whew!  A Whirlwind tour!  And there is a lot more fabulous to see at the Design Team's Blogs (some of whom also have Birthday Blog Candy).

New Release - You Give Me A Warm Glow...

How about some more autumn stamps?  I know that many of you will love this one in all it's creepy cuteness....

I chose to take two of the pumpkins from the set and color them up with Copics and the mount them on my own homemade pumpkin.  I'm feeling particularly brilliant with this one :)  I cut out 3 ovals with my Spellbinders, sponged them well, and then place them together to form the pumpkin, then I took one of the Floral Accent Shapeabilities to be my Pumpkin stem, cute hey?  A little gingham ribbon tied on it and it's really festive.

I also added a new product to the Flourishes store, some really cool mosaic tiles to accent the ruffled ribbon.   Isn't it neat.  They come in wonderful colors and you can use a whole row of them, or just a few, and they come in two different sizes too.

So, tell me what you think of this cute set, and leave a comment here with your email to win some birthday blog candy I have for you.... one winner will get your choice of either the Swan Lake set or the Lace Edges Set :)   I'll announce the winner on Monday!  Happy Birthday Flourishes!

New Release - Apple of My Eye

Well, you've waited long enough to see this month's New Releases from Flourishes!  And I'm so excited to show them to you!  Today's beautiful set illustrated so creatively by Marcella is going to be a new go-to favourite set for me.  I almost couldn't stop myself from stamping more with it!  I'll show you two projects today with lots of pictures but you'll also find so much more gorgeousness with the Design Team....

Just LOOK at that gorgeous spray of flowers, apples and leaves!!!  I've colored the image for this  5 1/2 x 5 1/2 card with Prismacolor pencils, blending with Odorless Mineral Spirits.  I wanted to get a lot of variation in the colors on the apples, just like what real apples often look like as they are ripening.

I trimmed out the flowers and leaves and fruit and then added it to this Big Scalloped Oval Shape that I had also run through an embossing folder.  Do you see the need dotted texture around the card?  It's with my new Scor Bug Tool, Julie did a fantastic feature on the Flourishes Blog with it last week too.

I've embellished it with these gorgeous pearls (this link is to them in brown), and then I added this perfect  ruffled gingham red ribbon.

Now for something completely different.... How about some Caramel Apples for Fall?

Marcella did some great apple themed images for this set that I just LOVE!  The caramel apple is colored with Copic markers...and then look how I added the caramel.

A little touch of Crystal Effects on the caramel and it looks just like the yummy real thing!  I added two gorgeous ribbons the green gingham to match the apple ribbon, and the gorgeous Ivory linen ruffle to accent.  The papers are a combination of some old Basic Grey and SEI On the Coast.  I added the pretty scalloping on top with the Fair Isle Borderabilities.

So...now I KNOW you want to go and see more beautiful inspiration with this set at the rest of the Design Teams' Blogs..... (some of these wonderful ladies have Birthday Blog Candy as well...)

And you can enter to win this set today at the Flourishes Blog.
